Follow-up visits are a core part of ongoing care, and documentation should keep pace. Rheo AI Scribe now supports follow-up documentation, so chiropractors can carry forward previous notes, update what’s changed, and avoid rebuilding the same visit over and over. Here’s how.

For chiropractors, documenting follow-up visits usually means repeating work that’s already been done, rebuilding SOAP notes and updating details that never even changed. That’s time that adds up and pulls focus away from what's more important: the patient.

That’s why we built a new AI Scribe workflow in Rheo specifically for follow-up visits.

Now, instead of starting from scratch, providers can use “Use Last Note & Update Macro Selections” to carry forward the previous SOAP note exactly as it was, then simply speak to what has changed. Rheo updates the existing macro values automatically based on the visit transcript.

The result is a faster, easier way to document ongoing care that feels natural, consistent, and built for everyday practice.

What Is AI Scribe for Follow-Up Visits?

With this latest update, Rheo AI Scribe now supports follow-up visits, extending beyond new visit documentation by addressing a key gap in how most AI tools work. Most AI documentation tools generate notes from scratch based on a visit transcript, but follow-up care requires a different approach.

Instead of creating a new note, Rheo carries forward the previous SOAP note and updates only what has changed based on the provider’s input. The structure, headers, and existing documentation remain intact, so only the details that need to be updated are modified.

Why We Built This

Initial visits are only one part of the care journey. Providers spend a significant amount of time on follow-up visits, where much of the note remains the same and only select details need to be updated.

Until now, that created an obvious gap. AI Scribe could help with new visits, but follow-up clinical documentation still required repetitive work that slowed providers down.

We saw an opportunity to make the experience better.

With this update, AI Scribe now supports follow-up documentation the same way it handles new visits. Providers shouldn't have to re-create an entire note just to reflect a few meaningful changes. They should be able to speak naturally, document confidently, and move on with their day.

How AI Scribe Updates Follow-Up Visit Notes

Version 1 introduces a new AI Scribe template option called “Use Last Note & Update Macro Selections.”

With this workflow, Rheo:

  • Copies the previous note exactly, including headers, text, and structure
  • Retains the provider’s existing documentation format
  • Updates only the existing blue hyperlink macros based on what the provider says during the visit

For example, if you note a different pain level or body region during a follow-up visit, Rheo updates those macro values automatically. That means you can focus on what’s changed instead of rebuilding what’s already there.

How Providers Document Follow-Up Visits Faster with AI

With Rheo's latest documentation update, chiropractors benefit in three important ways:

Less Repetitive Documentation

You no longer need to re-dictate or manually revise an entire note for subsequent visits. Rheo keeps the original structure in place and updates only the macro values that have changed.

More Time and Less Effort

Instead of navigating note sections line by line, you can speak naturally about the visit. Rheo does the work of translating those changes into the existing note, helping reduce charting time across ongoing care.

Better Accuracy and Consistency

Because the prior note is copied forward exactly and only the macro values are updated, documentation stays more consistent from visit to visit. This helps reduce note drift and supports cleaner, more reliable records.

How Rheo Updates SOAP Notes for Follow-Up Visits

This release includes several important capabilities that make follow-up documentation more efficient:

Macro-only Updates

Rheo updates values within existing macros without adding, removing, or restructuring the content of the note.

Transcript-driven Changes

Spoken updates are pulled directly from the visit transcript to keep documentation aligned with what happened during the encounter.

Follow-up Visit Optimization

AI Scribe can now better support subsequent visits, extending its usefulness beyond initial visit workflows.

Smarter Chiropractic Charting, Visit After Visit

Good technology shouldn't ask providers to change the way they think. It should work the way they already do. In follow-up care, that means recognizing that care is an ongoing journey.

Your chiropractic practice deserves documentation that reflects that same continuity. By reducing duplicate work and preserving the structure you already rely on, Rheo helps charting feel more like a continuation of care.

With "Use Last Note & Update Macro Selections," you can walk into every follow-up, speak to what changed, and walk out with an accurate, consistent note that's ready to go.

That's the kind of AI support that creates real value: less repetition, more confidence, and more time for care.

FAQs

What is an AI medical scribe?

An AI medical scribe is a tool that listens to a patient visit and automatically generates clinical documentation. Instead of manually typing notes, providers can speak naturally while the system captures and structures the visit into a SOAP note.

Can AI reduce documentation time for follow-up visits?

Yes. By carrying forward existing documentation and updating only what has changed, AI can significantly reduce the time spent on repetitive charting during follow-up visits.

Is AI documentation accurate for ongoing care?

AI documentation can support accuracy by maintaining consistent structure and capturing details from each visit. Providers still review and finalize notes, ensuring documentation reflects the patient’s current condition and care plan.
