On Tuesday, November 15, 2016, The Dr. Oz Show filmed two segments addressing the unfortunate death of Ms. Katie May. Her family believes that Ms. May died as a result of care she received from a chiropractor.
The first segment involved the family of Ms. May and their thoughts on the cause of her death. The second segment involved Dr. Oz, Dr. Carolyn Brockington, a neurovascular surgeon at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York, and Dr. Steven Shoshany, a practicing chiropractor from New York.
Dr. Shoshany addressed the following questions:
1. Did cervical manipulation play a role in the circumstance of Katie May?
2. How important is a patient’s history in understanding this problem?
3. What are chiropractors doing to address these situations?
We’d like to thank Dr. Steven Shoshany, Foundation for Chiropractic Progress, American Chiropractic Association, Dr. Gerry Clum, Dr. Stuart Hoffman and Dr. Jason Deitch for leading our profession’s conversation on this important topic!
